Rent Safely — Verify Before You Pay
HiOwner only helps you connect and communicate with property owners. We don't participate in or guarantee any transaction — these steps are on you, and they matter.
1. Visit the property in person
Never finalize or pay for a place you haven't seen yourself. Photos and descriptions can be outdated or misleading — a visit confirms what you're actually getting.
2. Verify who you're dealing with
Confirm the person you're speaking to is genuinely the owner (or has clear authority to rent it out) before discussing money. Ask for ID if anything feels uncertain.
3. Verify property documents
Ask to see ownership proof or a prior rental agreement. A genuine owner won't mind a reasonable request to confirm the property is legitimately theirs to rent.
4. Understand the rental agreement before signing
Read every clause — notice period, lock-in, maintenance responsibility, what happens to the deposit. Don't sign anything you haven't actually read.
5. Understand rent and deposit terms clearly
Get the exact rent, deposit amount, and what it covers in writing before any money changes hands. Verbal promises are easy to dispute later.
6. Don't rush into payment
Genuine owners don't need you to decide or pay within minutes. Pressure to act immediately — 'someone else is about to book it' — is a common red flag.
7. Be wary of suspicious requests
Be cautious of anyone asking for payment before a visit, refusing a video call, or asking you to pay through unusual channels. Trust your instincts if something feels off.
8. Report suspicious listings
If a listing looks fake, scammy, or the details don't add up, use the Report / Update option on the listing itself — it goes to our team for review.
No fee or advance payment — don't pay before visiting and verifying.
